Best Practices > Basic Server installation and configuration tips
Create a Windows user account to be used as the logon account for each of the Amicus Services. This account must have Windows "Administrators" Group rights. Unlike a local system account (which is the default), a Windows user account has a profile and thus allows you to:
Use Drive letters rather than UNC paths or use shared folders that have permissions
Run an accounting application that requires Windows authentication
Do not assign a computer name longer than 15 characters to your Amicus Application or Database Server.
Update SQL Server (or SQL Server Express) and Windows to latest service packs.
Do not install to Program Files as this will cause problems when running under Windows Vista or later, Windows Server 2008 or later, or Windows Small Business Server 2008 or later.
If the firm is using Small Business Server for file/print/application sharing, e-mail, etc., then it is recommended that the Amicus Application Server be installed on a separate server.
Never modify the Amicus subfolder names. This may cause a future update/upgrade to fail.
Do not interrupt the installer or run other processes on the Server during install.
Ensure that there are no firewalls blocking connections to Amicus or SQL components. To do this either disable the firewall or ensure that the appropriate applications are included in the firewall's exception list—see the applicable "Install Guide" for details available from your Amicus Help Center or the Amicus Attorney Technical Resource Guides section of our website.
