Specifying general settings > Locations specified as mapped drives or UNC paths
In several Firm Settings (as well as user preferences and detail records), you will need to identify the location of computer files: documents, document templates, Library Page resources, e-mail attachments, etc.
To ensure that shared items are available to all relevant users (and to each user from different workstations), we recommend that you choose one location format and recommend its use to all users:
If using a UNC path—If utilizing the Universal/Uniform Naming Convention (UNC), the computer name and full path must be entered. Drive letters are not used and drive mapping is not required. For example, if shared documents are stored in the AmicusSharedDocs folder on the computer named Alaska, then the path would be:
\\Alaska\AmicusSharedDocs
If using a mapped drive—The Amicus Application Server and all workstations must be mapped in Windows Explorer to the shared location. For example, if shared documents are stored in the AmicusSharedDocs folder on the computer named Vulcan, and the Server and a workstation's K drive is mapped to that folder, then the path would be K: We recommend that the same map letter be used at every workstation.
