Tutorial 4 - Adding a HotDocs Form template

HotDocs users can set up their HotDocs Form templates to work with Amicus. The steps relevant to HotDocs are summarized here—for further details, please consult the documentation that came with your HotDocs program.

To add a new HotDocs Form template to Amicus Document Assembly, complete the following steps.

  1. In HotDocs Automator, create a new HotDocs Form template (extension .HFT) without any Merge Variables.

  2. Copy the Form template file (but not the .CMP component file) to the location you have designated for Amicus Merge Templates.

  3. Create an Amicus Merge Template record—in the Advanced view of Template Details, select "HotDocs (Form)" from the Template Type drop down list.

  4. Browse to the form template file in the Template Location field.

  5. Click OK, a HotDocs Component file that contains information for the appropriate Amicus Merge Variables is automatically created for the template. This Component file has the same name as the Form template file, except that the file extension is .CMP.

  6. In HotDocs Automator, open and edit the form template file in the Merge Templates location. Insert the Amicus (and non-Amicus) Merge Variables into Form fields and then save the template.
