Sharing Practice Information > Working on the same item
If you are a Firm Member, you can always see the information you have access to, but only one Firm Member at a time can change it.
The first Firm Member to open a record's Detail dialog can make changes to it. Other Firm Members can open the Detail dialog and do certain tasks, but they must wait until the first Firm Member is finished before they can make certain changes.
When you open a Detail dialog that someone already has open, the text "In use by", and that person's name, is shown in the title bar of the dialog. In addition, some of the information appears dimmed.
If someone else is already working on a File you have just opened, you can change the details of a Person On The File, open any of the views, and make changes to any of your own Communications, Events, Time Entries, etc. However, you cannot change any of the basic File details, including the fields in the Admin brad views.
For example, suppose that John has a File open, and you want to make a phone call on the File. You can do so, because you are adding new information (the Phone Call record) to the File. You can also look at any of the Event lists, and open an existing Event or add a new one. These Events are separate from the File and can therefore be modified.
If you open a Person Details that someone already has open, you can make changes to your Communications records and your Events involving this Contact. You can copy text from the Main Note view, but you cannot change or add to it. You can change Communications and Address information in the Business Card by clicking the Edit button.
Note: If you do not have editing rights on a Restricted record, the record will be noted as Read-Only in the title bar, and you will not be able to make any changes to it. |
